If you stay for a long time in the North of the country, you should make the vaccine against meningitis (A+C). If you stay in a rural zone for a long time (more than one month), you should get vaccined against Japanese encephalitis.

What about preventive medecine for malaria ? You can’t get vaccined but you can take tablets of Malarone to prevent it. You will have to start before you arrive and finish after you come back to your country. But is is extremely expensive, so ask you doctor if you really need it, as it depens on where you go in India. You can also take preventives tablets such as doxycycline, but check with your doctor because it is strong and can cause allergies. If you go to big cities such as Delhi you don’t absolutly need it, you must protect you with an insect repellent that contains DEET.
