Depuis trois jours, \u00e0 la maison c\u2019est le branle-bas de combat. Du sol au plafond, sur aux trois \u00e9tages, toute la famille (fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs, parents, grand-m\u00e8re) s\u2019affaire \u2026 Sauf moi\u00a0! Trop occup\u00e9e \u00e0 contempler les guirlandes scintillantes du voisin dans la lumi\u00e8re du soir qui tombe d\u00e9j\u00e0. Toutes les pi\u00e8ces ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9cur\u00e9es \u00e0 fond, et la chambre que je partage avec mon petit-fr\u00e8re ne fait pas exception. \u00ab\u00a0Alisha* !\u00a0 tonne grand-m\u00e8re, les mains sur les hanches en m\u2019observant de son \u0153il farouche, ne reste pas affal\u00e9e ainsi !\u201d<\/p>\n

En grognant, je m\u2019extirpe du confortable canap\u00e9 et de ma r\u00eaverie. Tout le monde ici est sur-excit\u00e9\u00a0: demain, c\u2019est Diwali, et rien n\u2019est encore pr\u00eat\u00a0!<\/p>\n

\"Diwali<\/a><\/p>\n

Au bout de quatre heures d\u2019intenses efforts d\u2019installations des lumi\u00e8res, voil\u00e0 papa pr\u00eat \u00e0 appuyer sur l\u2019interrupteur. Dans un geste th\u00e9\u00e2tral, il compte de sa voix forte\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0\u0112ka\u00a0\u2026D\u014d \u2026 t\u012bna !\u201d<\/p>\n

Voil\u00e0 la maison recouverte d\u2019une enveloppe \u00a0lumineuse, elle irradie ! je ne peux r\u00e9primer un sourire, tandis que ma\u00a0 petite s\u0153ur Nandini (\u00ab\u00a0celle qui donne la joie<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0)\u00a0saute\u00a0de joie en criant et se met \u00e0 courir dans tous les sens.<\/p>\n

Quand le silence est \u2013 enfin \u2013 revenu, nous entamons le traditionnel rituel qui revient chaque ann\u00e9e. Assis en cercle sur le tapis, au milieu du salon, nous \u00e9coutons papa nous expliquer l\u2019origine de ce festival\u00a0:<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Diwali est l\u2019un des plus grands festivals indiens, c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 avec beaucoup d\u2019enthousiasme dans toute l\u2019Inde. Cette ann\u00e9e, nous le c\u00e9l\u00e8brerons le 23 octobre. Elle symbolise la victoire du bien sur le mal. Selon la l\u00e9gende (papa prend un ton myst\u00e9rieux), lorsque le seigneur Rama est revenu de ses 14 ann\u00e9es d\u2019exil apr\u00e8s avoir battu Ravana, le peuple d\u2019Ayoda l\u2019accueilla en allumant des bougies et des diyas<\/em>** pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer son retour au royaume.<\/p>\n

Diwali, qui est en fait la contraction de deepavali, signifie \u00ab\u00a0tableau de lumi\u00e8re\u00a0\u00bb et symbolise la victoire de la luminosit\u00e9 sur les t\u00e9n\u00e8bres.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Oui, enfin pour les petits (et les grands comme moi), c\u2019est surtout l\u2019occasion de rater l\u2019\u00e9cole. Diwali est un jour f\u00e9ri\u00e9 non seulement en Inde mais aussi au N\u00e9pal, au Sri Lanka, en Guyane, au Suriname, en Malaisie, \u00e0 Singapour ainsi que sur les \u00eeles Myanmar, Fidji, Maurice, \u00a0et Trinidad & Tobago. Nous en profitons aussi pour nous gaver de bonbons et de friandises et recevoir des cadeaux de la part de nos oncles et tantes que nous retrouvons pour l’occasion !<\/p>\n

\u00ab Comme c\u2019est beau\u00a0\u00bb, souffle ma petite s\u0153ur lorsqu\u2019il a termin\u00e9 son expos\u00e9. Autour de nous, dans l\u2019obscurit\u00e9, tout n\u2019est que lumi\u00e8re et f\u00e9\u00e9rie. Soudain, fusent les d\u00e9tonations des p\u00e9tards et des feux d\u2019artifices\u00a0! Les festivit\u00e9s ont commenc\u00e9 \u2026<\/p>\n

La sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 de ce festival est le peda, \u00e0 base de lait concentr\u00e9, de sucre en poudre, de cardamome et de pistache. Les plus r\u00e9put\u00e9s\u00a0(et appr\u00e9ci\u00e9s !) sont ceux d’Agra. Il existe de nombreuses d\u00e9clinaisons de ce mets et d’autres friandises que les indiens d\u00e9gustent tout au long de la f\u00eate.<\/p>\n

– barfi<\/em> : pr\u00e9paration \u00e0 base de lait et de sucre garnie de pistache et de cardamome<\/p>\n
