Le ja\u00efnisme \u00e9tait n\u00e9 en m\u00eame moment que le bouddhisme et aujourd’hui les Ja\u00efns comptent seulement 0,05% de la population indienne. La religion a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9e par Mahavira en environ 500 avant JC. Mahavira, tout comme Bouddha, appartenait \u00e0 la caste des guerriers. On l’appelait \u00ab\u00a0Jina\u00a0\u00bb ce qui signifie \u00ab\u00a0le Grand Gagnant\u00a0\u00bb et de ce nom est d\u00e9riv\u00e9 le nom de la religion.<\/p>\n

Dans beaucoup de points le Ja\u00efnisme est semblable au Bouddhisme. Le Ja\u00efnisme comme le Bouddhisme a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 en discordance avec la philosophie brahmanique qui \u00e9tait dominante dans cette p\u00e9riode dans le nord-est de l’Inde. Les Ja\u00efns comme les Bouddhistes croient en r\u00e9incarnation qui \u00e9ventuellement pourrait conduire \u00e0 la lib\u00e9ration. Aucune de ces religions ne met au centre l’adoration de dieu tout puissant. Mais le Ja\u00efnisme est diff\u00e9rent du Bouddhisme dans ses croyances asc\u00e9tiques. Les deux religions mettent l’accent sur la non-violence. Mais dans le Ja\u00efnisme la non-violence est au c\u0153ur m\u00eame de la croyance. Les Ja\u00efns croient en ce que tout a une \u00e2me, y compris le sable, les pierres et les arbres.<\/p>\n

Le fait que les arbres respiraient, la science l’a appris seulement au 20\u00e8me si\u00e8cle. Mahavira qui croyait que toute chose avait une \u00e2me et aussi en la non-violence, ne mangeait pratiquement rien, ce qui a au final caus\u00e9 sa mort. Mahavira \u00e9tait aussi extr\u00eamement asc\u00e9tique et se promenait tout nu, car il renon\u00e7ait \u00e0 la vie. Les adeptes de la religion de Mahavira ne sont pas aussi extr\u00eames que lui dans les r\u00e9gimes. Ils sont simplement v\u00e9g\u00e9tariens.<\/p>\n

Les Ja\u00efns croyants vont faire tout ce qui est possible pour \u00e9viter de faire du mal \u00e0 qui que ce soit. Ils ne vont par exemple pas marcher sur les champs afin de ne pas \u00e9craser des insectes. Ils vont couvrir leur bouche pour ne pas avaler par hasard d’invisibles micro-organismes. En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral ils ne travaillent pas l\u00e0 o\u00f9 il y a une moindre possibilit\u00e9 de tuer un \u00eatre vivant, comme dans l’agriculture par exemple.<\/p>\n

Il y a deux philosophies dans la Ja\u00efnisme :\u00a0Shwetambar et Digambar. Les moines de\u00a0Digambar ne portent pas de v\u00eatements comme le faisaient Mahavira et ils incluent seulement les hommes.
