Take the Shatabdi express that leaves on Friday at 4:30 pm from Delhi (from New Delhi Central Station), and returns on Sunday at 5 pm. This train takes 6 hours to reach Amritsar. In CC chair, you will have a lot of food provided. First they give you some bread and indian sweets, then some tea, then some bread and butter, a lemon juice, and after : the diner, a meal with rices and vegetables, a chapati and a yogurt. After the meal you get an icecream. It is included in the price ! It costs around 740 rupees in CC chair, the double if you want to take a seat in first class. You will see beautiful landscapes, ricefields and villages from the train.
Then you can visit Amritsar in two days. On the morning, got to the Golden temple. It opens at 4 am until 10 pm, try to go as early as you can, to avoid queuing up a long time.Then you can go to the Durgiana Temple. In the afternoon, take a bus or a cab to go to the Wagah Border : It is at 32 km from Amritsar, it is a border point between India and Pakistan. But, the ceremony starts at 6:30 pm and lasts 20 minutes, so don’t be there a long time in advance as people can recommend (I arrived at 4pm and it was really useless, I waited a long time outside…). You have to know that tourists have a VIP seat to see the ceremony, so no need to rush ! Women, queues are separated between men an women, you can easily get there without queuing.
