Two days in Delhi

What to visit, what to do if you are in Delhi for two days? Here are some advices!

On the first day, you can start visiting the Old Delhi: a must do ! Visit the Red fort, then the the Jama Masjid mosque, remember that you don’t have to pay for the entry, or for the dress that they will give you to cover your body. But if you have a camera, you have to pay 300 rupees to be able to carry it with you in the mosquee. Then have a lunch at the famous restaurant, that is in front of the mosque: Karim’s. The food is excellent, and it is cheap. Then, if you are not too tired, visit the Chandni Chowk market and the spice Market, it is worth it ! Walk in the small streets, get lost, take a velo-rickshaw… You will discover a lot and feel this unique and special atmosphere!

Then, you can head to the Lodi Garden to have a rest, to walk in this peace and beautiful garden, with ruins and tombs from the 15th century. You can also have a drink in the Lodhi garden restaurant, it is quite expensive but the place is incredible, you can sit inside or outside.

Where to have diner in Delhi? There are many restaurants. You can have diner in Hauz Khas Village, a very nice area in south Delhi. I recommend the Gun Powder, the food is excellent, it is not really expensive, and you can eat on the terrace with a nice view of the Haus Khas lake. Then you can walk in this “village”, have a drink, and sleep after this long day !

On the day after, you can visit in the morning the Humayun’s tomb, the tomb of the Mughal emperor Humayun, in the Nizamuddin area. The entree fee is 250 rupees. It is a magnificent structure, it is very peaceful and clean. After, you have several options. You can either go back to Hauz Khas village, to shop, visit the art galleries, have a drink, a lunch… You can also go to Khan Market to have lunch or to go shopping: there are famous Indian brands such as Anokhi or Fabindia. However, if you want to visit a typical indian market, go to Lajpat Nagar. If you want to buy some Indian handicraft, you can go to the Dilli Haat Market, next to the metro Station INA. After, you must visit Qutab Minar, in South Delhi. The entry fee is 250 rupees. Then, if you are not too tired, or if you have time as is closes at 5:30 or 7:30 during Summer (it is closed on Monday), I advise you to go to the Lotus Temple near Nehru Place. This structure, also called Bahai Temple is inspired by a lotus, it is definitely a must-see in Delhi.

So, take your time, Delhi is a big city, quite crowded ! You won’t be able to do everything, so you can visit some of these places, I am sure you will love the city.
