Yes, this is possible and this is what we advise you, especially if you don’t have a lot of time to spend in India.
There are several options.
You can take a taxi for the day, it is about 3 hours long to get to Agra, where the Taj Mahal is. We can ask our taxi from our hotel Bed and Chai to drive you to Agra, and come back to Delhi in the afternoon or in the evening for 6000 rupees if you take the normal way (it takes 4 to 5 hours), with an AC car for four people, or 7000 rupees if you take the express way (it takes 3 hours). For 6 people, it costs 7500 rupees for the normal way and 8500 rupees for the express way. You can leave early in the morning and come back in the afternoon.
You can also take the train, the faster train takes two hours and leaves at 6 am from New Delhi central station (It is the Bhopal SHTBDI), and comes back from Agra at 8:35 pm, so you are in Delhi at 10:45 pm, this is the NDLS SHATABDIE.
Small, but usefull trick : to visit the 8th wonder of the worlde and to avoid waiting in one out of two queues at 5am, [inlinetweet prefix=”null” tweeter=”null” suffix=”null”] you can now book your Taj Mahal tickets online ![/inlinetweet] 🙂
