The Father of the nation celebrates his 145th birthday!

That’s it! This day has come! On 2nd October 2014 this is the 145th (!!!) birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, called Mahatma Gandhi. All India gathers together this day to celebrate this event and pay homage to the one of the greatest men in the history of India.

The whole world knows this heroic figure of Gandhi, his struggle.

Gandhi, the fighter who brought hope and bravery to the Indian people.

Gandhi, the “Great Soul” who was involved in different actions in order to eradicate the intouchibility from the country and help the poor.

Gandhi, egalitarian who made great efforts to promote women’s empowerment in India.

Gandhi, who finaly wanted to create brotherhood between different religious communities and who was victim of his vows.

His words, become quotes, remind us his final message :

” By opposing hate to hate, we only spread it on the surface and in depth “

” Democracy should provide to the lowest the same opportunities as to the stronger “

” If a man reaches the heart of his own religion, he reaches the heart of other religions “

” Giving a glass of water in exchange of a glass of water is nothing; true greatness is to exchange good for evil ”

This is only a very small part of his wisdom, but this reveals the depth of his thoughts and actions, innovative actions for that period of time.

• Gandhi Smriti Museum (Birla House) : 5 Tees January Rd. Open every day except on Monday 10h00 – 17h00. Free entry. This is the house where Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life before bieng killed by a Hindu fanatic. Behind the house, near the garden there is a stela indicating the exact place where Gandhi was mortally injured.
• Gandhi Museum :  Rajghat Rd. Open every day except on Monday 9h30 – 17h30. Free entry. Very nice museum, full of artifacts and information about the life and the death of the father of the nation. Well maintained.
