No train for Varanasi, stop in Khajuraho!
Trains from Delhi to Varanasi are often fully booked. A good way to workaround is to take a ticket for Khajuraho. The connexion Delhi-Khajuraho / Khajuraho-Varanasi is not that crowded and you will be able to find tickets even last minute. Check carefully though, trains are not running every day.
But what to see in Khajuraho?
It is a lovely village in Madhya Pradesh with Kamasutra temples! Take a bicycle and visit ones of the most beautiful temples of India!
The group of temples were built together and dedicated to two religions the Hinduism and Jainism, suggesting a tradition of acceptance and respect for diverse religious views among Hindus and Jains.
They are famous for their erotic sculpture but they cover less than 10% of the temple sculpture.
Few days to spend in Khajuraho? You can also go to Panna National park and the Waterfalls. You might be lucky and see some leopards.
We also recommend the cities of Orchaa and Gwalior on the way!
Where to stay?
Homestay
“Friends in Khajuraho” is a lovely homestay runs by an Indo-French family with social commitment.
If you stay only one day, you can also contact them to use a bathroom and leave your luggage while visiting the city.
Out of the tracks
Ken Lodge is near Panna national Park. Their restaurant is beautiful built around a tree. Very refreshing if you are there in Summer.
